Mobile pink slip vs drive-in — real cost and time compared
Not every pink slip needs to be mobile. Here's a straight comparison of the real trade-offs — time, cost, quality, and the few scenarios where a workshop still wins.

Mobile pink slip is faster and more convenient for most people. But it's not universally the right choice. Here's the honest comparison so you can pick what suits.
Real time on the day
Workshop: drive there (average 20 min in Sydney), wait for a slot (typical 45–90 min if you don't have a booked appointment), inspection itself (20–30 min), drive home (20 min). Realistic total: 90–160 minutes. Mobile: we arrive at your driveway, 20–30 minute inspection, done. Realistic total: 30 minutes of your day.
Real cost
Workshop rates vary — cheapest we've seen $28, most sit at $45–$70. Mobile costs $179 flat with call-out included. But factor in fuel, tolls, and time-off-work: for most workers the workshop's headline saving disappears once you value your hour at anything above $30.
When a workshop is genuinely better
If you already need repair work done — brake pads, a globe, a wiper — and want the inspection and the repair in one visit, a workshop that does both makes sense. Mobile inspectors don't carry repair parts and can't do repairs on the spot.
Frequently asked.
- Is the mobile inspection less thorough?
- No — same regulated checklist, same equipment (we carry the same electronic scan tools and light-testing gear), same lodgement to Service NSW.
- Do you do repairs?
- No — we're inspectors, not mechanics. If we find something that fails, you take it to your preferred workshop for the repair, then rebook the recheck.
