Sydney summers age a car faster than winters do. Here's the short list of pink slip fails that spike between December and February.

UV, heat and long stationary parking in direct sun stress a car's rubber and cooling components more than any other seasonal factor in Sydney. If your rego is up in autumn, that's when the summer damage catches you at the inspection.
Wipers
Cheap OEM wipers last about 6–8 months in Sydney sun. If yours are streaking, torn, or split down the rubber edge, replace before the inspection — 15 minutes, $30 a pair from Supercheap Auto.
Tyres
Heat inflates tyres. If yours were set correctly in winter and haven't been checked since October, they may be running 3–5 PSI over spec — accelerating centre-of-tread wear that turns into an inspection fail 12 months later. Check pressures monthly in summer.
Coolant leaks
Small radiator or hose leaks that seep quietly in winter turn into visible drips when the coolant runs at max temperature all day. A pressure test catches these before they escalate — and before the inspector sees them.
Batteries
Heat is harder on lead-acid batteries than cold is. If your battery is 4+ years old and slow to crank on a hot afternoon, replace it — a marginal battery can cause intermittent electrical faults that fail electronic scan checks during a pink slip.

- Does high tyre pressure fail a pink slip?
- No — inspectors don't fail on pressure alone. But sustained over-inflation causes centre-of-tread wear that fails the tread depth check later.
- Can I use dashboard sun shades to help?
- They help the interior plastics and dash rubber last longer, but they don't affect the mechanical items that fail an inspection.
