How long is a NSW pink slip valid?
A NSW pink slip is valid for 6 months from the day of issue. If your rego doesn't renew inside that window, you'll need a fresh inspection.

The 6-month validity is designed to give you a comfortable window either side of your rego expiry date. You don't need to time it precisely — but if you delay too long, the inspection expires and you're back to square one.
When to book
The sweet spot is around 4–6 weeks before your rego expires. That gives you time to fix any fails and get a re-inspection well before you'd become unregistered.
If the pink slip expires
If 6 months pass between the inspection date and the day you attempt to renew, Service NSW will reject the renewal and you'll need a fresh pink slip. There's no partial credit — full new inspection at full price.
Frequently asked.
- Can I use last year's pink slip?
- No — pink slips are single-use for the following renewal only.
- Does validity change if my rego is 6 months?
- No — the 6-month validity applies regardless of your registration period.
