Pink Slip Basics · 11 min read

The reason "pink slip near me" pulls 12,000+ searches a month in Australia — and about 2,400 for its plural "pink slips near me" — is boring but universal: everyone wants the shortest path from renewal reminder to rego renewed, and driving across Sydney for a 25-minute inspection at a workshop is the opposite of a short path. This guide is the honest answer to that search. It covers what "near me" actually means when you can pick a mobile inspector, how to compare mobile vs workshop, where we cover in Sydney, how fast we can be on your street, and every follow-up question the People-Also-Ask box tends to throw up.

What 'pink slip near me' actually means in NSW

A pink slip in NSW is an eSafety Check issued through the Transport for NSW Authorised Inspection Scheme (AIS). Every station that issues one — fixed workshop or mobile — is authorised under the same scheme, works from the same rulebook, and lodges the result through the same electronic Service NSW portal. When you search "pink slip near me", Google returns two categories of station:

  1. Fixed AIS workshops — you drive to them. Traditional. Usually cheapest on the raw inspection fee. Adds a workshop trip and a waiting room to your Saturday.
  2. Mobile AIS inspectors — they drive to you. Flat call-out included in the price. No workshop trip, no waiting room. Your "near me" becomes wherever your car is right now.

Both are legally identical outputs. The pink slip Service NSW receives from a mobile inspector at your driveway in Bondi is the same pink slip they'd receive from a workshop in Bondi Junction. The difference is entirely in your Saturday.

Cost: flat $179 inc GST, no matter which suburb

Same price at Palm Beach, same price at Campbelltown, same price at Katoomba. The $179 inc GST covers the regulated $51 Transport for NSW inspection fee, the mobile call-out, the electronic Service NSW lodgement, and a free re-inspection within 14 days if anything fails on the day. There is no weekend loading, no public holiday loading, no fuel surcharge, no booking fee, no "electronic lodgement" fee.

  • Flat $179 inc GST — pay online at booking or at the driveway
  • Afterpay available at online checkout — four instalments, no fees
  • Free re-inspection window: 14 days from the fail
  • 7am–7pm, 7 days a week including weekends and public holidays
  • Card / tap-and-go / Apple Pay / Google Pay accepted at the driveway

How fast can we actually be there?

Same-day slots are the norm across Sydney metro if you book before mid-morning. Book by 10am for Inner Sydney, Eastern Suburbs, Inner West and Lower North Shore and there's a very high chance you'll be inspected the same afternoon. Book before 2pm and next-day-morning is almost guaranteed across the whole Sydney footprint. Wollongong, Central Coast and Blue Mountains are 24–48 hours because of drive time, not availability.

Once you book, we send an SMS with the inspector's name and the arrival window (usually 30 minutes wide). If traffic runs against us we text you. The actual inspection takes 20–30 minutes for a standard car.

'Near me' when you live in a tight street or an apartment tower

A common concern in Inner West terraces, Bondi apartments, Manly one-way streets and Pyrmont strata buildings: "does mobile even work here?". The honest answer is yes, almost always. We work in:

  • Terrace streets across Newtown, Marrickville, Camperdown, Balmain, Leichhardt — we usually find a workable spot within a block, and we don't charge for the walk.
  • Apartment garages and strata carparks in Zetland, Pyrmont, Green Square, Bondi Junction, Chatswood, Rhodes — visitor bays work perfectly, just book one ahead if the building requires it.
  • Workplace carparks in the Macquarie Park business park, Norwest Business Park, Sydney Olympic Park, the CBD — many of our customers book us for a lunchtime inspection at their office.
  • Metered street parking around Bondi, Manly, Cronulla, Kings Cross — we bring change or pay by app.

The physical requirement is about two car-lengths of clear space, enough overhead clearance to open the bonnet, and room to walk around the car. Undercover parking is fine. Basement carparks are fine as long as we can drive our van in — most can. Flag any unusually tight access at booking (steep basement ramps, secured dealer yards, gated fleet compounds) and we'll confirm before the day.

When 'near me' isn't the right search at all

A pink slip is only the right inspection when your car is currently registered in NSW and being renewed. Two situations where "pink slip near me" isn't what you want:

  1. Rego expired more than 3 months. Once you're outside the grace window, the vehicle needs a blue slip (a much more thorough unregistered vehicle inspection), which legally has to be done at a designated AUVIS workshop — not mobile. We'll point you at the closest AUVIS station to your postcode.
  2. Interstate transfer, rebuilt write-off, or major modification. All blue slip territory. Same rule — AUVIS workshop, not mobile.

If you're not sure which one applies to you, book the pink slip anyway — we'll confirm at first contact and refund the booking if it turns out you need a blue slip.

Workshops are the honest cheapest option per inspection. Mobile is the honest cheapest option per hour of your time. Either is a legitimate answer depending on what's tighter this week — money or hours.

How to book

  1. Open the booking page. Enter your suburb — the checker confirms coverage instantly.
  2. Pick a 30-minute window between 7am and 7pm, any day of the week.
  3. Enter vehicle make and model (we cover cars, SUVs, utes and vans up to 4.5 tonnes).
  4. Pay online (card or Afterpay) or select "pay at driveway".
  5. SMS confirmation lands within a minute. We arrive inside the window.

The short version

  • "Pink slip near me" doesn't have to mean a workshop trip — mobile inspectors come to you.
  • Same $179 flat price across Sydney, Wollongong, Central Coast and Blue Mountains.
  • Same-day slots common if booked before 10am in Sydney metro.
  • Same Transport for NSW authorisation and electronic Service NSW lodgement as a workshop.
  • Free re-inspection within 14 days on a fail.
  • If your rego has been expired more than 3 months, it's a blue slip — not a pink slip — and you need an AUVIS workshop.
Common questions

Frequently asked.

Where can I get a pink slip near me in Sydney?
The two categories are fixed AIS workshops (you drive to them) and mobile AIS inspectors (they drive to you). We're a mobile AIS inspector covering all of Sydney metro, Wollongong, Central Coast and Blue Mountains — book online, pick a 30-minute window between 7am and 7pm, and we come to your driveway or workplace.
How much does a pink slip cost near me?
Workshops in Sydney typically charge $45–$70 all-in. Mobile is flat $179 inc GST with us — same price everywhere in our coverage area, no weekend loading, no distance surcharge, no fuel fee. That covers the regulated $51 inspection fee, the call-out, and electronic Service NSW lodgement.
Can I get a pink slip today?
Same-day slots are common across Sydney metro if you book before 10am — Inner Sydney, Eastern Suburbs, Inner West and Lower North Shore rarely run out. After 2pm we usually push into the next morning. Wollongong, Central Coast and Blue Mountains are 24–48 hours.
Do you do pink slips on weekends or public holidays?
Yes — 7am to 7pm, 7 days a week including Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. No weekend loading and no holiday loading — same $179 inc GST.
How long does the inspection take?
20–30 minutes for a standard car once we arrive. We walk around the car, run the underbody and lights, check tyres and brakes, plug in the diagnostic scanner and lodge the result electronically. The whole appointment window is usually 45–60 minutes including paperwork.
Do I need to be home for a mobile pink slip?
Someone needs to give us access to the vehicle and the keys. That doesn't have to be you — a partner, housemate, or building concierge is fine. Many customers book us at their workplace carpark instead of home; corporate parks like Macquarie Park, Norwest and Sydney Olympic Park are routine for us.
Can you come to an apartment garage or a strata carpark?
Yes. We do multiple apartment-garage inspections every day across Zetland, Pyrmont, Green Square, Bondi Junction, Chatswood, Parramatta and Rhodes. Book a visitor bay ahead if your building requires one. If access is tight (steep basement ramp, height restriction, secured gate), flag it at booking and we'll confirm before the day.
What happens if my car fails the pink slip?
You get an itemised written list explaining exactly what needs repairing — no vague "brakes need work". Fix the items yourself, at your own mechanic, or through us by request, then rebook the re-inspection within 14 days. The recheck itself is at no extra cost.
Do you do pink slips for motorcycles or trailers?
No — mobile inspections are only for cars, SUVs, utes and vans up to 4.5 tonnes. Motorcycles and trailers have to be inspected at a fixed AIS station because of the equipment required. We can point you at the closest station for either.
Where can I get a pink slip near me if my rego is already expired?
Depends how long. Rego expired less than 3 months: you can still book a pink slip, but you need to drive to the inspection under an unregistered vehicle permit (we can guide you through it). Rego expired more than 3 months: that's a blue slip, which is more thorough than a pink slip and legally has to be done at a designated AUVIS workshop. We'll point you at the right AUVIS station for your postcode.
Are mobile pink slips actually legit?
Yes. Mobile AIS inspectors hold the exact same Transport for NSW authorisation as fixed workshops, use the same electronic Service NSW lodgement system, and issue the same pass or fail result. The difference is administrative, not regulatory — we're licensed to work at your address instead of a workshop bay.
